JOB DESCRIPTION BUYER:

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

• Execute purchase orders upon receipt of an approved requisition
• Expedite goods and materials upon safe receipt on board of the required vessel

AUTHORITIES:

• Sent out RFQ’s to vendors;
• Carry out supplier monitoring, evaluation, audit and selection;
• Negotiate with vendors to reduce costs;
• Ensure adherence to all safety, health and environmental rules and regulations;
• Commit to vendors upon an approved PO.

RESPONSIILITIES:

• Manage the procurement of goods and services in a cost-efficient manner, in time, in accordance with  requirements and at acceptable terms and conditions;
• Assist the Management in developing procurement strategies, procedures, etc;
• Analyse of the purchasing process status and progress;
• Negotiate and administrate procurement contracts;
• Monitor, evaluate, select suppliers, keep the respective records;
• Perform bid evaluations.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor degree / work & thinking level;
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar position in a maritime company;
• Knowledge about related legislation, taxes, incoterms, accounting, cost control.

QHSE COMPENTENCIES:

• Ensure that QHSE requirements are never jeopardised by failure to arrange the timely provision of  essential goods or services;
• Recognise the ‘ownership’ of quality, health, safety and environmental control within the shpere of procurement activity and require the reporting stuff to demonstrate the implementation the competencies;
• Ensure that the relevant procedures are adhered to all safety, health and environmental rules and regulations; responsible for working within the provisions and guidelines of the Quality Assurance system in compliance with ISO 9001, 14001 & 45001;
• Comply with the Corporate Integrated Management System

OTHER COMPETENCIES:

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Package;
• Knowledge / working experience with DNV Ship Manager is a pre;
• Commercial awareness: staying up to date with the industry and business peculiarities;
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal;
• Accurate administrative skills
